World Water Day
Plan Ireland has been working with the Irish Firefighters for a number of years now on an innovative project. Earlier this year, a fire engine, kindly donated by Dublin City Council, left Ireland headed for Niger in West Africa. In times of drought fire engines are life savers, literally taking water to the people. A small team of Irish firefighters from Dundalk and Monaghan went out to Zinder, Niger in order to train the local fire crew on the use and maintenance of the vehicle.Previously there was just one fire engine in the region to service a population of 2.4 million.Since this project, fire engine has been a great benefit to the children and communities in the Zinder region.
