Marjo is leading a Walk in the Mournes and she sent the following info:
The walk on Sunday 9 march will be on Slieve Bearnagh (739) and slievenaglough (586) in the Mournes Mountains range. It's a 10km hike and should take about 4 hrs.
There are good tracks on the lower slopes with steep rocky paths on the higher slopes where you will need to use your hands, we will be crossing the Trassey river more than once.
We will meet at Meelmore Lodge Amenity centre (J305 307) on the Trassey road at 10.30 there is a charge of 4£ for parking, there is a coffee shop and toilets on site.
I suggest southsiders leave from TF at 9 am and northsiders meet at the small Applegreen garage (not to be confused with the garage on the motorway )off exit 5 balbriggan for 9.30.
Any questions Marjo's number is 0876736608.
Martha, is leading a Short Sharp walk in St Catherines Park Leixilp:
Martha will not be at the Tuning Fork. She will meet people at the Library in Leixlip for 11.30am.
For those meeting at the Tuning Fork 11 o'clock meet up will give them enough to time to get to the Library in Leixlip for 11.30. The walk will take about 2 hours - 2 and half max. She said that runners will be fine (but that may be because she walks so fast some of us will have to jog to keep up with her!!)
The Library in Leixlip is at the top of Captain's Hill - From the Tuning fork once on Main Street,Leixlip, take the right urn at the traffic lights up Captains Hill. The Library is on the left just after the River Forest Hotel. There is a Supervalu there also and you can park in the carpark.
Martha's Number is: 086 6027478

FOLLOW ON PRACTICE SESSION 13 April
Open to all members. The idea is to have an informal follow on practice session after the training weekend on 22/23 March for people to practice basic navigation if they wish. Anyone is welcome to join the walk (whether they did the training session on 22/23 March or not) and people can have a go at navigation, or not, as they wish. It will be an informal session on a non strenuous grade 3 route that is suitable for practicing a bit of navigation. Details will be provided on the training weekend of 22/23 March so anyone interested in having a go can look over the route in advance."
